The Life Cereal “Mikey” commercial was launched by the Doyle, Dane & Bernbach agency in 1972. The memorable ad won a Clio Award in 1974 and stayed in rotation for over 12 years.
Why we like it: Before this ad aired, Quaker had targeted the majority of their advertising to health conscious moms and women trying to stay fit. With a slight change in messaging from “It’s good for you” to “It’s good for you, and even picky eaters will like it”, Doyle, Dane & Bernbach were able to keep Quaker’s health conscious goals while also opening up their product to a whole new audience, children!
Why it’s still relevant: Sometimes a slight change in messaging can open up a whole new customer base and make consumers see your product in an entirely different way.
