Cheers to 10 Years!

10 year employee anniversaries

Three cheers for Kosal, Lauren, and John! These three employees have recently celebrated their 10 year work-aversary with Planet Central. To honor their time with us, we asked them to think back on the past 10 years…

What is one of your favorite projects you have worked on?
Kosal – My favorite project was when Tilson was featured on TV ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Tilson built a new home for an injured veteran to make his life a little more manageable. During the process it was exciting to see your work from various logo designs, printed works, video slideshow and many other creative projects featured on a grand scale and on national television. Most of all, it was an amazing experience to be a part of something as special as helping a veteran get the honor that he deserved.
Lauren – I can’t think of a particular project but I do love working on new business pitches. I find it exhilarating to study a potential client’s infrastructure, learn about their business, their target audiences, their geographic reach, and then offer some methods in which we might be able to assist them further succeed and reach their goals. It is the most rewarding thing when a client comes to you with a problem and you can work with them to help solve the issue and achieve that goal we put in place.
John – There are many. Shortly after I started, I worked on several Impact Mailers for RSM McGladrey, The Shovel Mailer, a medical one, a golf umbrella, and golf glasses. Another favorite was the megaphone for WorkPlace Media. I also enjoy the work we do for Park Sterling and I have some fun with AgRISK.

In your opinion, what is the biggest change that has affected the advertising world?
Kosal – I think everyone can agree that Social Media has been one of the biggest impacts on advertising and marketing. It has changed the way we advertise through the process and speed that ads are created and received. The rise of mobile devices makes social media even more accessible, so response and feedback to your ad or message is immediate and can be shared by millions stretching globally.
Lauren – I would have to say how media is consumed. There are so many more ways to reach consumers now a days, and more ways audiences are consuming advertising. You have to think about time-shifted TV viewing, cross device usage, streaming radio, social media engagement and mobile everywhere. People are consuming advertising while they are doing other things so your content needs to be delivered quickly and needs to be relevant to them.
John – The speed of which things need to happen. Still driven by ideas, but the craft can sometimes be lost in the speed. Realizing this change makes us work harder to plan in advance and try to see things before they hit. Though, there will always times when you just have to forge through it! Also, the mechanisms that deliver advertising messages have greatly changed. It’s important that we’re constantly working to stay up-to-date.

What is something you couldn’t do 10 years ago that you are able to do now?
Kosal – Something that I couldn’t do 10 years ago is video editing. I’ve made dozens of video testimonials and slide shows. It’s fun taking raw footage and splicing, moving frames around, playing with transitions/effects and adding in music, audio and stills to make something unique and entertaining.
Lauren – When I started I was not familiar with digital at all. I had experience with print media and that was about it. The agency media department gave me the opportunity to work in all mediums, print, radio, TV and digital. I have made it my mission to stay as up to speed as possible with the latest in all vehicles.  I am able to analyze the data and performance of campaigns quickly. In the past we would run some newspaper ads within a flight and find out how many appointments were booked during the campaign, several weeks later. Now I can track hourly or daily how many customers converted or booked an appointment from a digital campaign and how much it cost the client to acquire those new customers or sales. It’s amazing how much data is available now and how quickly we can optimize the performance of an advertising campaign to help our clients succeed.
John – There are a lot of things I couldn’t do ten years ago. Most I won’t admit to. But, I can write a little code now (enough to be dangerous).

Many thanks to Kosal, Lauren, and John for all of their hard work on behalf of Planet Central and our clients!
